An astounding clip and 3 questions

I beg you to watch this youtube clip featured on the blog of my friend Wes Roberts. Ask yourself three questions.

Why was the audience so incredibly rude in the beginning?
Why were the Judges surprised that this woman could sing?
What was YOUR wake up call as you watched?

Now read the story of this woman’s life.

I watched the clip, I read the story and I prayed….

Dear God,

Help me to see in ever person I meet the beautiful soul of one that you died for. Let me believe that everyone I meet is capable of great things because they were created by you, in your image. Please help me Lord!

Amen!

  1. Wow! Ken, all I can say is “wow!”
That brought tears to my eyes. Lord, forgive me for the many times we laugh and judge, before knowing what’s going on. It truly is more than the “package”. Lord, help me to see through Your eyes, to the heart behind the appearance.
    Amen.

  2. “The Jews would not willingly tread upon the smallest piece of paper in their way; but took it up; for possibly, said they, the name of God may be upon it. Though there was a little superstition in this, yet truly there is nothing but good religion in it, if we apply it to man. Trample not on any; there may be some work of grace there, that thou knowest not of. The name of God may be written upon that sould thou treadest on; it may be a soul that Christ thought so much of as to give his precious blood for it; therefore, despise it not.” ~Coleridge

  3. Ken…wow! Indeed. I loved the news article’s end..
“Susan has been forgiven her looks and been given respect because of her talent. She should always have received it because of the calibre of her character.”

  4. Yea, it’s definitely one of those who’s-ever-not-guilty-throw-the-first-stone kind of scenarios. It’s one of those occurrences that God allows in a person’s life to teach others a lesson without having to listen to another sermon on why we shouldn’t be mean to people. If only we listened to our mothers when we were children–If only we would learn from this one.

  5. I don’t even know what to say. This one quote in the article makes my heart hurt:
“…only the pretty are expected to achieve. Not only do you have to be physically appealing to deserve fame; it seems you now have to be good-looking to merit everyday common respect.”
Wonder how many times I’ve looked past the unlovely to befriend the lovely … and ended up missing a gift as a result?

  6. Hey…Ken, my brother…….
    …you cried? 🙂
…me too, every time I’ve seen this
…we must be getting gracefully olde to be free to weep
…glad I’m in good company like you
…thanking God for you, my friend!!!

  7. I saw that clip a few days ago Ken, but I never saw the story behind it. Wow is right.
I love her voice – she is amazing.
    Thank you for posting both.

  8. Ken I am going to memorize, copy, cut, paste that prayer because I am just quick to upset at people because they dont fit my mold thank you. As far as Susan Boyle is proof that we need to read the book before we comment.

  9. 1. Her looks
    2. Her looks
    3. You shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.
I have heard so many people talking about this woman’s looks this week. All I’ve been able to think is, “Why does it matter what she looks like? She sure can sing!” God has blessed her with this amazing talent.
It should be a wake-up call to all of us…because we all tend to do this. God made every person and we are called to love others just the way He made them.

  10. 1) This middle-aged, non-attractive woman had the audacity to desire a fame that is usually restricted to the most attractive in our culture.
    2) See #1.
    3) Appearance is NOT the highest blessing that God can bestow, and inner beauty and talent are not determined by outward beauty.
Probably my favorite part of the entire clip is when Susan is about half-way through the song and the judges are just beaming at her. It’s like they can’t stop smiling, and I think that that made them (the judges) look more beautiful as well, as though the beauty of Susan’s voice was reflected in their smiles. It reminds me that we were created to be reflections of God to each other.
